About First Party Fraud
First Party Fraud refers to when customers wrongly dispute legitimate charges through refund or chargeback systems. This type of fraud has become more common, especially after the pandemic, as online shopping grew and return and refund processes became easier.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has released a plan to tackle the increase in 'Friendly' and 'First Party' fraud. The BRC's plan involves working with its members and partners, such as payment providers, banks, regulators, and the government, to reduce the financial losses and other problems this fraud causes retailers.
